Garden, Prairie and Trail Maintenance
Help us maintain and enhance our public spaces, keeping them welcoming for everyone to enjoy. You can choose to volunteer once, once a week, once a month, or even just seasonally—whatever fits your schedule best. Thriving gardens means a thriving community. You’ll enjoy fresh air, meet new neighbors, and just might learn a little along the way. If you’re interested, please contact Ken Schmidt at wstmsng@yahoo.com.
Flower Garden Volunteers:
Wexford volunteers maintain five beautiful flower gardens: the traffic circle, the village signs on Old Sauk and Gammon, and two gardens in Wexford Park. Your help is needed and appreciated for the following tasks:
1. Spring prep of the gardens—this includes edging, weeding, planting, and watering.
2. Summer help—this includes weeding, watering, and dead heading in the five areas.
3. Fall help—this includes removing all the plants, cutting off the perennials and digging out the bulbs.
Wexford Prairie (Lot 400) Volunteers:
Your help is needed and appreciated for the following tasks:
1. The prairie is usually burned off early in the spring. As the prairie starts to grow the trails need to be mowed every two weeks starting around late June. (A mower is available for use.)
2. Invasive weeds need to be removed throughout the season, mostly thistles. If you enjoy the natural beauty of the prairie and would like to be a part of helping to maintain it, please let us know.
Woods Walking Trail Volunteers:
Your help is needed and appreciated for the following tasks:
1. Trim all the weeds along the trail with a string trimmer three times during the summer. Cut off any small trees growing too close to the path.
2. In the fall, rake all leaves off the trails and haul them to the curve.
3. Every three years the trails need to get a fresh coat of bark mulch applied.
Contact Ken Schmidt at wstmsng@yahoo.com to volunteer a bit of your time!
